Clara Elaine (Anderson) Sorum was born February 9, 1908, in Stanley, North Dakota, to parents John and Alice (Nelson) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed in Stanley. Clara attended and graduated from Stanley High School and attended one year of teacher's training at the Normal School in Minot, North Dakota. She was a teacher for about five years. Clara and Alvin B. Sorum were married June 27, 1935. They were the parents of three sons: Curtis, Roger, and Roland and one daughter, LaVonne. The Sorums farmed until they moved to Clarkfield in 1972. Clara moved to Valhalla Apartments in Clarkfield in 1984 and then became a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center in March of 2001. She was a faithful member of Bergen Lutheran Church, the Bergen Ladies Aid, the Hospital Auxiliary and the Lisbon Garden Club. Clara passed away at the Care Center on Friday, December 29, 2006, at the age of 98 years, 10 months, and 22 days. She is survived by her children: Curtis (Rosie) Sorum of Marshall, Minnesota, Roger (Karol) Sorum of Clarkfield, Roland (Carol) Sorum of Walker, Minnesota, and daughter LaVonne Koosman of Ft. Myers, Florida. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and sister-in-law Myrtle Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, and siblings Roy and Henry Anderson, Mildred Kramer and Ruth Mitchell. Blessed be her memory.
