Mrs. Christina J. Kittelson was born August 20, 1878, in Clarkfield and observed her 80th birthday a few days before her passing on August 29, 1958. She was the daughter of Gunder and Mary (Johnson) Kjos. During her infancy, she was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Pastor Carl J. Moen on June 4, 1893. On November 8, 1899, she was united in marriage to Martin Kittelson of Yellow Medicine County, the marriage service was read in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church by Rev. O.C. Farseth. The union was blessed with six children, namely Stella, who passed away at an early age of three, Mildred, who was called at the age of 26, Mora (Mrs. R.B. Borene) of San Jose, Caliofornia, Dora (Mrs. E.M. Hoberg) of Montevideo, Gerhard and Oscar of Clarkfield. A niece, Emma Quale has made her home with Mrs. Kittelson for many years. After only fourteen years of marriage, the young mother was left alone to bring up her family when her husband passed away in December 1913. The family resided on the farm now occupied by Gerhard, until 1919, when she moved to her present home in town, where she has resided ever since with an occasional trip to visit her daughter in California. She served her family faithfully as well as her church. She was a member of the Clarkfield Ladies Aid for 50 years. This kind and loving grandmother and friend will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Five grandchildren, Karen, Charnel and Ranny Borene, Patricia (Mrs. M.I. Hauge, Jr.) and Diane Kittelson and two great grandchildren, Christine Hauge and Sandra Zelmer survive as do two brothers, Fred Kjos of Montevideo and Anton Kjos of Granite Falls. Six brothers and sisters preceded her in death, namely Mrs. Nels Quale, John, Lewis, Carl, Oscar and Gustav Kjos. Mrs. Kittelson passed away at the Clarkfield Memorial Hospital, Friday, August 29, 1958, at the age of 80 years and nine days.
