Charlotte Vik January 19, 1913 - September 12, 2014 Charlotte Vik, age 101, of Decorah, IA, died on Friday, September 12, 2014, at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah, IA. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at the Clarkfield Cemetery, Clarkfield, MN, with Rev. Allen Vik presiding. Memorials may be given in memory of Charlotte to the Decorah Lutheran Quilters, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, 52101; Latin American Lutheran Mission, (Supports Lutheran Churches in Mexico) PO Box 17385, Minneapolis, MN 55417-7385, or a mission/ministry of your choice. Charlotte Lillian Kirkeby Vik was born on January 19, 1913, the daughter of Olaus and Inga (Olson) Kirkeby in Clarkfield, MN. Charlotte was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. She attended school in Clarkfield and then went to college in St. Cloud, Minnesota and General Beadle College in Madison South Dakota. Charlotte taught country school for two years. She was united in marriage to Henrik M. Vik on August 15, 1936, at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Charlotte then stayed at home and raised their three children, Allen, Sharon and Stanley, while her husband, Hank worked in the lumber yard business. They lived in Dawson, MN, Clarkfield, MN, Boyd, MN, Canton, SD, Kinsley, IA, Watertown, SD, Eugene, OR and then to San Antonio, TX, for thirty-nine years. Over the years, Charlotte taught elementary school in Watertown, SD and in San Antonio, TX, before retiring in 1977. Charlotte enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, painting, baking cookies and entertaining. She joined the Decorah Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed quilting with the ladies. In 2007, Charlotte moved to Decorah to be near her son. She has spent the last two years at the Eastern Star Home in Decorah. Charlotte is survived by her two children: Rev. H. Allen (Janice) Vik, Decorah, IA, and Stan (Darlene) Vik, Atlanta, GA. Seven grandchildren: Jon (Brenda) Vik, Sara (Nathan) Meyer, Cheryl (Paul) Bowman, Michael (Christie) Vik, Roxanne (Lex) Williams, Derek (Lisamarie) Seckinger, and Brigette (Tomas) Lenstad. Seventeen great grandchildren: Ryan, Erika, Ethan, Annika, Britta, Matts, Nathan, Dakota, Harrison, Tatiana, Joshua, Katie, Olivia, Charlotte, Kevin, Caitlin and Christoffer. Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents: Olaus and Inga (Olson) Kirkeby. Step-mother: Rachel Olson. Husband: Henrik "Hank" Vik in 2000. One daughter: Sharon Seckinger Norstrom in 2010. Siblings: Marian (Clarence) Hanson, Harry (Alice) Kirkeby, Jewell (Cleo) Kirkeby, Grace (Lester) Wold, Lloyd (Eunice) Kirkeby, Helen (Waldemar) Anderson, and Dorothy (David) Peterson.
