Funeral services were held at the Clarkfield United Methodist Church, Tuesday afternoon for Mr. Charlie A. Brock, who passed away on Sunday morning, December 3, 1972, at the Clarkfield Hospital. Rev. Grant Tanner officiated at the service with Mrs. Harold Forsberg as organist. Mrs. Myron Friberg and Mrs. Johnie Sturgeon sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Casket Bearers were Harry, Lawrence, William and Harold D. Sharkey, Roger J. Brock and David W. Smolley. The body was then taken to Webster City, Iowa, for services there on Wednesday, December 6, at 1:30 p.m., at the Foster Funeral Home. Rev. S.W. Cunningham officiated with vocal music by Mr. Ivan Hutson. Casket Bearers there were Robert W. Bringolf, Lawrence Ewing, Harland, Harry, Lawrence and Virgil Sharkey. Burial was at the Graceland Cemetery. Charlie Adelbert Brock was born September 12, 1875, in Hamilton County on a farm south of Webster City, Iowa, the son of James and Rebecca (Williams) Brock. His family included two brothers and seven sisters, namely: Thomas and Frank, Mary, Ida, Nellie, Artie, Eva, Myrtle and Laura. All are deceased. On December 12, 1899, at 7 p.m., Charlie Brock and Annie Sharkey, and Charles Packard and Isabelle Sharkey, all of East Calhoun Township, Lake City, Iowa, were united in a marriage in a double wedding at the parsonage of the First Christian Church by Rev. E.E. Bennett. The young couple spent their years of wedded life near Webster City and Lake City, Iowa. They resided on farms for many years. He then worked on the Taylor Dairy Farm and the few years before his retirement, he worked in the furniture business at Lake City, Iowa. They bought a home in Clarkfield, Minnesota, in the fall of 1956, just east of the First English Lutheran Church. Here they celebrated their 60th and 65th wedding anniversaries with their family and friends of the community. Charlie resided here for a time after the passing of his wife on April 20, 1965. Then he lived with the children until he went to the Clarkfield Care Center. He enjoyed his life there and was busy with his handicrafts. He passed away at the Clarkfield Community Memorial Hospital on December 2, 1972. To this union nine children were born. Florence, Myrtle, Malcolm, Franklin, and Violet (Mrs. Kenneth Wollen) of Mankato, Minnesota, preceded him in death. Surviving are Loyal of Gideon, Iowa, Charles of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Robert and Margaret (Mrs. Jay Smolley) of Clarkfield, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law: Mrs. Ida Shanklin, Mrs. Anna Brock and Mrs. Mary Sharkey. He died at the age of 97 years, 3 months and 20 days. IN MEMORY OF CHARLIE A.
