Charles Edward Rachie was born to Mons and Sophia (Simonson) Rache on December 12, 1906, in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at home by his uncle, Rev. Christian Rachie. He was confirmed at United Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, Minnesota. He attended school at District 14 and Granite Falls High School, Granite Falls, Minnesota. Charles was united in marriage to Margaret D.A. Wolsund on May 3, 1942. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He served in the Army artillery at Dutch Harbor and The European Theatre. Charles' passion was agriculture, but he was also dedicated to his community, which was seen in his many years of helping neighbors and serving on the town board and Bergen Cemetery Board. Other memberships included The Farmers Union, NFO, and Sons of Norway. Charles passed away peacefully at his home in Stony Run Township on Sunday, February 22, 2004, at the age of 97 years, 2 months, and 10 days. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn and husband Larry Olson of Granite Falls; and three grandchildren, Cory Olson, Rachel (and Daniel) Engebretson, and Matt Olson; and two great grandchildren, Maija and Mitchell Engebretson. He is also survived by one brother, Stanley Rache, and sister-in-law, Irene Rache, both of Montevideo, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1969; four brothers: Levi, Roy, Henry, and Monroe; and two sisters: Dena Monson and Evelyn Dotseth. Blessed be his memory.
