Charles Donald Flett was born June 4, 1905 in Waterford, Wisconsin, Racine County to Dr. Charles and Adeline (Moyle) Flett. He was confirmed in the Congregational faith. In 1910, the family moved to Milbank, SD. He graduated from Milbank High School in 1923. Working his way through college, he first attended South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City and then the University of Minnesota. Charles graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School in June of 1935. On June 21, 1933, he married Rose Runnie in Minneapolis. Charles' work selling Law Books for West Publishing Co. took the family to Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, Indiana; Bernardsville, New Jersey; and Minneapolis. Charles and Rose settled in Clarkfield where he opened his law practice on August 5, 1940. Charles was active at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church, serving on several church boards. He served as chairman of the Parent Teacher Association. Throughout his life he was active in civic affairs. Charles retired from law practice in 1975. He passed away on Saturday evening, May 24, 1997 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and 21 days. He is survived by his wife Rose of Clarkfield; two brothers, William of Milbank, SD and Deane (and Van) of Shreveport, Louisiana; four children: Charles (and Florence) Flett of Tucson, Arizona; Margaret (and Galen) Wilson of Duluth, MN; Jim (and Marcia) Flett of Arvada, Colorado; and Robert Flett (and Sue Rohr) of Silverplume, Colorado. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Michael Flett, Arvada, CO; Marguerite Flett, Glenwood Springs, CO; Chris Wilson, Prague, Czech Republic; John Wilson, Minneapolis; William Wilson, Prague, Czech Republic; Allison Flett, Arvada, CO; and Tracy Flett, Arvada, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dr. David Flett, and sisters Louise Flett, Winifred Church, and Mildred Flett.
