Carrie Hovey was born December 22, 1882, in Fillmore County, near York, Minnesota, to Julia Olson Hovey and Knute Hovey. She was baptized and confirmed in the Suetersdal Lutheran Church near York. On January 1, 1901, she was married to Knute Thostenson at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church at Hanley Falls, Minnesota. To this union ten children were born of whom six survive: Clarence, Kennard and Evelyn (Mrs. Harvey Rafson) of Minneota, Minnesota, Cora (Mrs. Wallace Tollefson) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Gilbert and Maye of Hanley Falls. She passed away March 6, 1973, at the Granite Falls Hospital, Granite Falls, Minnesota, at the age of 90 years. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Julia Lawrence of Santa Monica, California, three daughters-in-law, two sons-in-law, 23 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Knute, on February 9, 1927; daughter, Evelyn, on February 16, 1917; daughter Gladys (Mrs. Nels Nelson) on March 31, 1932; son Tebert on April 24, 1963; and son Vernon on June 13, 1968.
