Caroline Judith Anderson was born November 22, 1903, in Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was the sixth surviving child born to Ove and Margretha Olson. She grew up on the family farm west of Clarkfield. When she was 14, she entered a boarding school in Madison, Minnesota, and completed normal school teacher training. Following graduation she taught in a one-room country school. In the late 1920s she left teaching and moved to Lamberton, Minnesota, to assist her sister Josie during an illness. In Lamberton she met Carl T. Anderson at a Luther League meeting. Caroline and Carl were married June 11, 1932, in Clarkfield. Carl taught in a rural school near Walnut Grove, Minnesota. A son, Keith, was born in February 1934. Carl left teaching to enter the grain business. While Carl served in the army during WW II, Caroline and Keith lived with her parents in Clarkfield. In 1946 the family moved to Sacred Heart, Minnesota, where Carl managed the local co-op elevator. Caroline became an active leader in church programs and civic women's organizations. She was a frequent soloist for weddings, funerals, and other occasions. In her later years she became an accomplished painter in oil and other media. After Carl's retirement they spent several winters in Arizona. Carl passed away in May 1988 and Caroline moved to Northfield, Minnesota, in 1989. Her last ten years were spent in the Northfield Retirement Center. Caroline is survived by her son, Keith and his wife, Beverly; grandchildren: Eric Anderson (Georgia), Kristin Bottemiller (Charles), Stefan Anderson (Jennifer); great grandchildren: Krista and Carl (Eric), Rebecca and Jessica (Stefan); along with many nieces and nephews.
