Carold Soppeland was born August 22, 1915, to Otto and Lena (Pederson) Soppeland in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church, and married Gladys Larson on October 12, 1940, at Israel Lutheran Church. They lived at various places until 1958 when they moved to the present homeplace five miles south of Clarkfield. Carold farmed all his life until his retirement in the spring of 1980. Carold died November 1, 1980, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 65 years. He is survived by his wife Gladys; his daughter Mrs. Bruce (Nancy) Westphal of Owatonna, Minnesota; three sons: James of Louisville, Kentucky, Michael and Paul of Marshall, Minnesota; five grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.
