IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol (Peterson)
Moseng
February 4, 1940 – April 21, 2012
Carol Jean (Peterson) Moseng was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota, on February 4, 1940, to Iona (Coover) and Winfred Peterson. She was the oldest of four children. She was baptized and confirmed at Swede Home Lutheran Church. Carol attended country school, located at the end of her driveway, through fifth grade. Thereafter she attended Clarkfield High School and graduated in 1957. Following graduation, she worked as secretary at REA in Montevideo until 1960. One evening at the Fiesta Ballroom, a handsome young man named Harlan offered to teach Carol to waltz. Having found true love, they were united in marriage on April 11, 1959, at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield. This union was blessed with four children: Brad, Brenda, Bruce, and Brent. Harlan and Carol farmed west of Montevideo until 1964, when they moved to their present farm site west of Clarkfield. Carol worked at the Clarkfield School for over thirty years, starting as a teachers' aide and eventually working as the elementary secretary. Additionally, Carol was devoted to her faith. As a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church, she was active in the Sunday School program, Adult Bible Study, Quilting Committee, Evangelism board, and was a Circle Chairperson. Carol was a compassionate and inspirational woman. She had a way of making everyone feel significant and loved, and she was always bringing flowers or food to comfort friends in need. In her free time, Carol could often be found in either her meticulously-kept gardens, or on the bleachers supporting her granddaughters. She enjoyed traveling, card games, going for walks, dominoes, and the occasional episode of Wheel of Fortune or Desperate Housewives. She also kept busy with Garden Club, Red Hat Club, Bloodmobile, and many volunteer activities. Her delicious cooking will be missed at all of our family gatherings, especially her famous brownies and holiday lefse and flatbread. Unknown to many, Carol had been courageously battling cancer since 1995. She persevered for 17 years, never complaining or letting it slow her down. When conventional care became ineffective, Carol sought alternative treatment in Arizona. After seven weeks, she returned home to be with her family and friends for the remainder of her days. Through it all, Carol continued to be more concerned about others than herself. She was an inspiration to everyone. Carol passed away peacefully on April 21, 2012. She is survived by her children: Dr. Bradley Moseng (and Sheryl Mann) of Montevideo, Brenda (and Frank) Vanderveur of Alexandria, Dr. Bruce Moseng of Cottonwood, Arizona, and Dr. Brent (and Deja) Moseng of Flagstaff, Arizona; nine granddaughters: Jami, Carli, Brook and Laura Moseng, Ashley and Kayla Vanderveur, Bella, Macie, and Harleigh Moseng; sister, Linda (and Rick) Kohn; brothers, LeRoy and Dale Peterson; sister-in-law, Beverly (and Arden) Anderson; brother-in-law, Elwood Moseng (and Betty Burgess); daughter-in-law Joni Moseng; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Harlan of 49 years, in 2008. Blessed be her memory!
