Carl Herman Skulstad was born September 27, 1915, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Hans H. and Bertha (Rosetter) Skulstad. On October 24, 1915, he was baptized at Bergen Lutheran Church where years later he was confirmed. He attended grade school in Stony Run Township, graduated from Clarkfield High School and attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Carl married Harriet Nelson in Clarkfield, Minnesota, on February 6, 1942. They farmed in Stony Run Township where they were active in both their church and community. Carl served on the Bergen Lutheran Church Council, the Luther Haven Nursing Home Board of Directors and was a member of the Farm Bureau Association. Carl passed away on Saturday, August 7, 1993, at the age of 77 years. He enjoyed family, many friends, the land and watching the wonders of nature. He is survived by Harriet, their three sons, James and his wife Roxanne of Brookings, South Dakota, Howard and his wife Kristin of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Curtis and his wife Cindy of Granite Falls, Minnesota; their two daughters, Carol Skulstad of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Susan Engel and her husband Steve of Guthrie, Minnesota. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Erik, Holly, Jude, Hans, Rachel, Scott, Sarah, Stephanie and Susan. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Bertha Skulstad.
