Carl O. Nelson was born on September 3, 1899, in Ten Mile Lake Township, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, to Haaken and Bertha (Haakenson) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Boyd, Minnesota, where he had been a faithful and lifelong member. He was united in marriage to Hazel Sack in June of 1933. They spent most of their married life engaged in farming. A year before Hazel passed away they purchased The City Cafe in Boyd in partnership with Francis Sack. Carl continued to operate it for man years. Carl spent the last twelve years with his sister Gerda at his farm home. He kept busy with yard and garden work as long as he was able. Carl passed away November 2, 1982, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 83. He is surviverd by his two sisters: Inga (Mrs. Marvin) Gustafson of Dawson, Minnesota and Gerda Nelson of rural Boyd, Minnesota; several nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel, his parents, six brothers and four sisters. Carl will be dearly missed by one and all, but especially by the little ones whom he dearly loved.
