Obituary

Carl Oscar Lilljestrale was born at Dawson, Minnesota, March 23, 1894, the only child of Olaf M. Lilljestrale and Caroline Nordstrom Lilljestrale. On May 6, 1894, he was baptized by Rev. B.E. Bengtson in the Tyro church and on May 10, 1908, he was confirmed by Rev. S. Kronberg at the Fridhem Church. He attended the Tyro Township school and later graduated from the Commercial Department of Gustavus Adolphus College. During World War I, he served in France in the Medical Corp and received his honorable discharge. On May 16, 1924, he was united in marriage to Lydia Alma Kopitzke. This union was blessed with one daughter, Shirley Jean, now Mrs. Kennon Rude of Hector, Minnesota. For many years Mr. Lilljestrale operated a general store in Clarkfield, taking over his father's business. His ability with bookwork became known about the state and was given special recognition by Richard Golling, state public accountant, who commended him on the system he adopted here as village recorder. He served as trustee on the League of Minnesota Municipalities and had been asked to serve as a teacher at the "U" Continuation center during the short-course periods. This offer he refused, stating that he was not a teacher. Mr. Lilljestrale was a seior member of the American Association of Hospital Accountants, member of the American Legion, the Civic and Commerce Association, the Brotherhood of the First English Lutheran Church, and also served as secretary of the congregation at the present time. Surviving are his wife, Lydia, daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Kennon Rude of Hector.
