Obituary

Carl Axel Larson was born on March 8, 1875, in Westre Jotland, Sweden, of parents Gustav and Marie (Johansdatter) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his native land. He immigrated to America in the year 1893 and settled in Rock County at Jasper, Minnesota. He lived there until the year 1898, when he moved to Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, and worked on the Charlie Hellzen farm. He was united in marriage to Emma Knutson of Moody County, South Dakota, in June, 1899. They settled in Yellow Medicine County on the Carl Ahlen farm where they resided until 1911, when they moved with their family to the present farm home, where they resided at the time of his death. Mr. Larson had been an active member in the Israel congregation for the past forty years. Previous to that he had been a member of the Spring Creek Church. He had served as a deacon and trustee of the Israel Church for about 25 years and he had been Sunday School superintendent for many years. Mr. Larson passed away at the Clarkfield Hospital on May 5th, 1957, after an illness of three weeks. He attained the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife and twelve children, namely, Emil at home, Esther (Mrs. John Kompelien) of Minneota, Ellen (Mrs. Lloyd Hanson) of Canby, Minnesota, Lloyd of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Gladys (Mrs. Carold Soppeland) of Montevideo, Minnesota, Grace (Mrs. Raymond Anderson), Ruth (Mrs. Oscar Nelson), Ruby (Mrs. Art Gordon). Dorothy (Mrs. Merle Nikolaisen), Edith (Mrs. Arne Berg), Velmin and Olaf, all of Clarkfield. He is also survived by 31 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; one sister (Mrs. John Foss) of Jasper, Minnesota, one brother, Victor of DeSmet, South Dakota; also a large number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one grandson. He was a true and devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather. He was always admonishing his family to live for Christ.
