Carl Knutson was born in Tamarack, Illinois, on November 15, 1882, the son of Olaf and Bengta Knutson. He was baptized in the Lutheran church in Illinois and confirmed in Swede Home Lutheran Church by Rev. Bengtson, and remained a lifelong member in that church. His parents passed away while he was still a young boy, and his uncle and aunt, Mrs. and Mrs. Pete Reese, opened their home to him and there he grew to manhood. He attended the public school in Swede Prairie Township. A few of his early years were spent working at Tacoma, Washington. Upon his return to Minnesota, he took up farming and was engaged in that occupation until his illness and death. He served on the church board, both as deacon and trustee for several years. He also served on the school board of District 90. He was united in marriage to Miss Nellie Olson on January 15, 1916. Five children were born to this union, namely: Wallace of Pierre, South Dakota, Leona (Mrs. Clifford Anderson) of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Alice (Mrs. Clarence Christianson) of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Gladys (Mrs. Juell Oakland) of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Marvin of Boyd, Minnesota. Mr. Knutson passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital on August 10, 1959, at the age of 76 years, eight months and ten days. He was preceded in death by his parents, two half sisters, one half brother and one brother. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Nellie; three daughters; two sons; one sister, Mrs. Ida Engelbrekt of Minneapolis; ten grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; three sons-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
