Carl Knutson was born May 22, 1897, at Belview, Minnesota, the son of Kolbert and Berte (Gimmestad) Knutson, natives of Norway. He was next to the youngest of the 14 children in the family He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Rock Dell Lutheran at Belview, Minnesota. On October 17, 1927, he was united in marriage to Cecelia Stokke at Granite Falls, Minnesota. For 11 years, he and Cecelia operated the home farm and then moved to a farm south of Belview. After nine years, they sold the place and moved to the St. Leo vicinity, where they spent three years before moving to Clarkfield in 1955. Since then he was employed at the Great Plains Supply Company and kept himself busy with other part-time work. Five children were born to Carl and Cecelia, three sons and two daughters: Murlon of Dawson, Minnesota, Burton of Brooten, Minnesota, Richard of Holloway, Minnesota, Ellen (Mrs. Harvey) Smith and Bertha (Mrs. Dennis) Voss, both of Lichfield, Minnesota. Mr. Knutson passed away on Thursday, January 8, 1970, at the University Hospital in Minneapolis, at the age of 72 years, following a short illness. All five children and his wife, Cecelia, survive him as do 17 grandchildren; one brother, Oscar Rachie of Granite Falls; four sisters: Anna and Marie Knutson of Minneapolis, Mrs. Clara Eide of Belview, and Lenora (Mrs. Arnold) Olson of Clarkfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Knute; sisters: Ellen, Emma, Bertina, Lena and a twin sister who died in infancy; as did two other babies.
