Hulteen
February 7, 1873 – April 20, 1952
Alfred Hulteen was born on February 7, 1873, in West Sweden, Wisconsin. His parents were August and Christine (Hawkinson) Hulteen. At an early age, he with his family moved to Minnesota, and settled on a farm in Swede Prairie Township. He was confirmed in the Swede Home Church by the late Rev. Bengtson. He attended rural schools in Swede Prairie and high school in Mazepa, Minnesota, and Granite Falls, Minnesota. He married Hulda Youngmark on April 4, 1899. Three children were born to them, one son, Orand, who died in 1923 and two daughters, Vivian and Phoebe. The greatest share of his occupational years was spent in salesmanship for wholesale fruit and grocery firms. He also was in the hardware and general merchandise business. Mr. Hulteen was village postmaster, served on the village council, for 24 years was a member of the Clarkfield School Board, and was on the Yellow Medicine County Board of Selective Service. On May 1st, 1950, he was stricken by a cerebral hemorrhage, after which time his health gradually began to fail and in February of 1951 be became bedridden. He passed away at his home at 2 o'clock on Sunday afternoon, April 20, 1952. He leaves to mourn his wife, Hulda; daughter, Vivian of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and daughter, Phoebe (Mrs. Ervin Besterfeldt) and grandson, Thomas of Spring Valley, Minnesota. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 23, 1952, 2:00 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota, with Rev. C.O. Bomgren officiating. Active pallbearers at the funeral were Dr. V.L. Silver, Carl Burke, George M. Gehant, C.O. Lilljestrale, H.J. Zelgart and Leo Nelson. Honorary pallbearers were A.W. Anderson, Oscar Westre, N.E. Nelson, T.L. Nordstrom, Guy Johnson and Supt. H.A. Hagg. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
