Obituary

Carl Oben Dotseth, the son of Nels and Anna Christine (Stenson) Dotseth, was born in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on November 30, 1877. He was baptized in January, 1878, by Rev. Knute Thorstenson, pastor of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. In August, 1892, he was confirmed in St. Lucas Lutheran Church before Rev. Knute Thorstenson. On April 7, 1900, he was united in marriage to Josephine Wilson of the Hazel Run community by Rev. Sotendahl. To this union, three sons were born: Clifford, Lester and Virgil. Carl was engaged in farming most of his life. For a short interval, he operated the Spring Creek community store from 1907 to 1915, at which time he moved his family to North Dakota and again resumed the occupation of farming. In 1919, he returned to Minnesota where he farmed until his retirement in the fall of 1948. At that time he took up residence in Granite Falls. Mr. Dotseth passed away on Sunday, April 7th, 1963, the day on which he would have observed his 63rd wedding anniversary, at the Granite Falls Hospital. He had reached the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Oscar, Peter, Cassius, who died at the age of six years, and a fourth brother, also named Cassius; two sisters, Nettie and Millie, and by his son, Lester, who passed away in November of last year. He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of Granite Falls; his two sons, Clifford of Clarkfield and Virgil of Granite Falls; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one brother, Albert of Granite Falls; and one sister, Mrs. John Vien of Montevideo.
