Obituary

Carl Jacob Damgaard was born October 6, 1929, at Lake City, South Dakota, to Fredrik and Serena (Sorensen) Damgaard. He was baptized into the Danish Lutheran Church at Lake City, October 29, 1929. He was confirmed at the First English Lutheran Church at Britton, South Dakota, May 20, 1945. He attended Marshall County #1 country school near his home. He farmed most of his life with his parents. He served in the United States Army from May 1954 to Feb. 1956. He was united in marraige to Joann Catherine Long on April 20, 1956, at Louisville, Kentucky. To this union six children were born: Walter, Barbara, Peter, Lucy, Hannah and one still born son. He lived in Louisville, Kentucky, two years when he worked for General Electric. He moved to the Clarkfield, Minnesota area in 1971 and worked for the mobile home industry until his health became poor. He was hospitalized in the Veteran's Hospital in Minneapolis many times from 1973 until his passing. Cancer was found in the spring of 1976 and he underwent two major surgeries for a hip replacement and for a kidney removal. He helped his son with the small farming until the fall of 1975 when his hip ailment became serious. He attended the Gethsemane Episcopal Church at Sisseton, South Dakota, for some time, was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and the VFW Post in Montevideo, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his mother; infant son; infant brother; and father-in-law S. J. Long. He is survived by his wife; children all at home; Father in the Marshall Manor Home at Britton, South Dakota; sisters: Mrs. Edwin Bratsveen of Britton, and Mrs. Richard Getrum of Spokane, Washington; Mother-in-law, Mrs. Carl A. Smith of Louisville, Kentucky; Step-mother-in-law, Mrs. Hazel Long of Danville, Kentucky; and many relatives in South Dakota and Nebraska. Blessed be his memory! IN MEMORY OF CARL J.
