IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carl Andrew
Brakke
April 29, 1866 – August 27, 1942
Carl Brakke was born in Watonwan County, Minnesota, on April 29, 1866, the son of Ole and Margit (Kjelson) Brakke He came with his widowed mother, three brothers and three sisters, to Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, when a small boy, and lived on a farm near Clarkfield. He was confirmed by Rev. Lokensgaard in Bergen Church. While still a boy of 14 years, he left home to work on the railroad in many parts of our country. After several years he returned home and homesteaded a farm in Swede Prairie Township. To this farm he brought his bride, Inger Berkvam, to whom he was married on February 16, 1892. Mr. and Mrs. Brakke observed their golden wedding on February 16, 1942, with a small gathering of relatives and friends as his wife had been in poor health for a few years. She passed away on August 27, 1942. Since that time he has spent most of his time with his son and daughter. He was able to be about and liked to talk of the good old times, especially to the great grandchildren. He had been at the Tracy Rest Home since November 1, 1955, where he passed away suddenly on Saturday evening, December 17, 1955, at the age of 89 years and eight months. He is survived by his daughter, Maye (Mrs. Herbert Wilson), son, Oscar, of Albee, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
