Bruce Thompson, 14, of rural Cottonwood and son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Thompson, lost his life Friday evening, April 16, 1971, in a car accident about 11:15 p.m., along a township road 3 1/2 miles northwest of Ghent, Minnesota. The accident was not discovered until 6:30 a.m. Saturday when the driver, Steve O'Neil, 16, rural Cottonwood, regained consciousness and crawled to a nearby farm house. Also in the car was Bruce's brother, Kerry Thompson, 19, who was taken to the Sioux Falls Hospital in critical condition. Bruce Alan Thompson was born December 17, 1956, to Kenneth and Helen (Welu) Thompson. He was baptized at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. He was a ninth grade student at the Minneota Public School. Surviving his early passing are his parents; sister, Becky, 17; and brother, Kerry, 19; his grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. Knute Thompson of Cottonwood, Mrs. Ida Welu of Marshall, Minnesota; his uncle, Ervin Thompson of Cottonwood; and from this area, great aunts and uncles: Mrs. John Lynner, Mrs. Roy Hanson, Mrs. Helmer Halvorson, Winfred and Ludwig Peterson, Olaf and Marvin Thompson.
