Obituary

Bruce James Leasman was born May 9, 1920 at Madison, MN to parents William and Alice (Hanson) Leasman. He was baptized on June 3, 1920 by Rev. J. Wm. Carlson and confirmed in 1935 by Rev. Wee. He attended and graduated from Dawson High School in 1938. Bruce enlisted in the National Guard at Dawson, MN on November 19, 1939. He went into Active Service at Camp Claiborne on February 10, 1941 and was part of the 135th Infantry Red Bull Division. He was involved in the Invasion of North Africa-Algiers, North Africa-Hill 609. He was honorably discharged on July 21, 1945. Bruce was a member of the Minnesota State Guard. Bruce married Helen May Haaland on November 24, 1946. This union was blessed with three sons and one daughter: Lynell, Alice, Lonnie, and Leslie. Bruce and Helen farmed from 1947-1963. He was a mail carrier at Boyd from 1963-1972 and then went to work at Moduline in Montevideo from 1973-1976. He also was a janitor at the Boyd Public School district #372 and Dawson-Boyd Public School #378. He retired on March 30,1984. He was a member of the Boyd Fire Department from 1963-1984 and a life member of VFW Post #5247, Boyd American Legion Post 198, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. Bruce passed away at his home on Thursday morning, May 20, 1999 at the age of 79 years and 11 days. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Helen May, of Boyd and his children: Lynell B. (and Deborah) Leasman of Boyd; Alice B. Mogard of Willmar; Lonnie W. (and Lonnie K.) Leasman of Littleton, CO; and Leslie A. (and Julie) Leasman of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; special sister, Grace Connor; and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Leasman and an aunt and uncle who raised him; Arnie and Marie Grobel; sister Wilma Carpenter; special brother and sisters - Richard Grobel, Bessie Feist, and Myrtle O'Connell; and granddaughter Lisa Kaye Wiebe.
