IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bruce Dean
Albertson
July 3, 1944 – March 12, 2024
Bruce Dean Albertson was one of nine children born to Archie and Gertrude (Blum) Albertson on July 3, 1944, in Springfield, MN. He was baptized on May 2, 1953, and confirmed on June 28, 1959, at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Bruce and his family lived in Lamberton, MN, until they moved to the present-day farm site near Clarkfield in 1948. Growing up, Bruce worked for area farmers shelling corn. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1963 and after, enlisted in the United States Air Force from 1965-1968 where he was stationed in both Germany and Turkey. In 1973, Bruce met Nadine McCoy and the two had their first date at the Greendoor near St. Leo before marrying on December 17, 1977, at the Methodist Church in Clarkfield. The couple raised their sons, Benjamin and Jacob, on the family farm outside of Clarkfield.
Work was a defining feature of Bruce's life—raising cattle and pigs, farming, and working with his sons for the past 20 years; he asked to wear his work boots even as his health declined. An avid golfer, Bruce was a member of the Clarkfield men's golf league and golfed nearly every weekend. He also served on the Friendship Township Board up until 2022. Bruce enjoyed card games like Buck and Pinochle and watching Minnesota sports teams in general, but especially the Vikings and Timberwolves. But no one held Bruce's heart quite like his grandchildren, and he will be remembered fondly for sneaking them dove chocolates and cosmic brownies behind their parents' backs.
Bruce passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by family and friends at his home on the farm in rural Clarkfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Gertrude Albertson; nephew, Craig Albertson, great-nephew, Tabor Larsen, and brother-in-law, Ron Anderson.
Left to remember Bruce are his wife of 46 years, Nadine; sons, Ben (Carrie) and Jake Albertson; grandchildren, Kelsey and Trent Merkins, Brianna, Kayleigh Jo, and Landon; great-grandson, Everett Merkins and another great-grandchild due this August; sister, Marge Anderson; brothers, James (Jackie), Spencer (Lois), Ronald (Marsha), Roger (Vicky), Donald, Rodney, and Gordon (Candy) Albertson, and many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 18th, 2024, at 2 PM at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church with visitation starting at 1 PM at the church. Interment with military honors to follow in the church cemetery.
