Boyd Woodrow Long was born November 5, 1914, at Clarkfield, Minnesota, to parents Andrew and Millie (Reed) Long. He was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Methodist Church. Boyd married Cora Stensrud on February 10, 1935, at the Clarkfield Methodist Church Parsonage by Pastor McCausin. Boyd and Cora were the parents of four children: Shirley, Carol, Kathy, and Darwin. Boyd and Cora farmed their entire lives. Boyd was an avid sportsman and spent many years in succession hunting in Northern Minnesota and Wyoming. He also enjoyed raising cattle and buffalo on his farm. His passion was racing stock cars with his friends at all the local tracks for many years. Boyd had many other interests including riding horses, motorcycles, and snowmobiles. After the death of Cora in 1987, Boyd remained on the farm. He moved to Valhalla Apartments in Clarkfield in 2001 and remained there until his death on Friday, August 26, 2005, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 90 years, 9 months, and 21 days. Boyd is survived by his daughters Carol (and Arne) Pearson of Spring Lake Park, Minnesota, and Kathy (and Dean) Hansen of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; son Darwin (and Deanna) Long of Oak Grove, Minnesota; and son-in-law Don Sturgeon of Burnsville, Minnesota. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tim Sturgeon, Gary (and Joanne) Sturgeon, Shari (and Jaime) Kangas, Mikala (and Paul) Daleiden, Shawna Lundy, Matthew Hansen (1975-1993), Andrew Hansen, Katie Hansen, Garrett Long, and Regina Long; ten great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Cora; daughter Shirley Sturgeon; grandson Matthew Hansen; brothers: Melville and Orville; and sisters: Pearl, Devota, and Murvel. Boyd was a wonderful father and grandfather.
