Obituary

Boris Tkacenko was born in Prague (the Czech Republic) on March 11, 1927, to Fr. Dimitrij and Ladislava (Kubinova) Tkacenko. He was baptized and confirmed into the Eastern Orthodox religion. He spent his youth in different parishes where his father served as a priest. They moved to Brazil at the beginning of World War II. There he played violin in a radio orchestra, and made pianos at home. After the war, they all returned to the Czech Republic, which was something that he often regretted, because he was unable to leave the country for almost 26 years. He became priest and got married on March 8, 1951. He divorced his wife about three years later. He later had disagreements with a bishop and left clergy. He worked at a piano factory, as a beekeeper, and in a brick factory. After leaving the Czech Republic, he came to Boise, Idaho, in October 1986, and lived there for about two years. Then he spent a few months in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and then came to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he resumed his services as a priest in the St. Panteleimon Russian Orthodox Church. After retiring, he moved to Echo, Minnesota, where he lived about six years. He spent the last two years in Clarkfield, Minnesota. Boris died Friday afternoon, January 25, 2002, at the age of 74, at his home in Clarkfield. He is survived by his daughter, Helen Tkacenkova, of Clarkfield. He was preceded in death by his parents. The mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2002, at St. Panteleimon Russian Orthodox Church in Minneapolis. Burial was at the Clarkfield City Cemetery on Tuesday, January 29, 2002.
