Bonnie Mae (Lancaster) Shaw March 5, 1926~September 8, 2014 Bonnie Mae (Lancaster) Shaw was born March 5, 1926, at Le Mars, Iowa Community Hospital, the fifth of seven children to Middleton John "Mit" Lancaster and Leah Rosabel (Beattie) Lancaster. She passed away September 8, 2014, at her apartment in Brookside Manor, Montevideo, Minnesota at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 3 days. She was baptized at Seney, Iowa Methodist Church where she attended Sunday school, Wesley league on Sunday evenings and sang in the choir. She attended grades 1-8 at Seney Public two-room school; High School at Le Mars Public School. Further education was at Iowa State University-majoring in Home Economics education and minor in Physical Education. After graduation she worked at the county extension office in Fort Dodge, Iowa, for one summer. Her teaching career began at Ida Grove, Iowa, for two years where she met and married Dean A. Shaw. Their first home was in Denison, Iowa, where he worked with JC Penney Company and she taught school for one year. Daughter, Terri, was born there. She also taught school in Schleswig, Iowa. The family (Dean) was transferred to Fairmont, Minnesota, where son, Scott, and daughter, Pamela, were born. The next JC Penney Company transfer was to Madison, Wisconsin. Following that they moved back to Mankato, Minnesota, where daughter, Gail, was born. In 1956 the family moved to Clara City, Minnesota, where Dean worked for Variety Supply. Michael was born at Willmar, Minnesota. They lived in Clara City for eight and one-half years. In 1961 she received a call from Clarkfield principal, Clarence Miles, inquiring about teaching Physical Education, Health and Home Economics. After much pondering she decided to take that job driving three years from Clara City to Clarkfield. In 1964 the family moved to Clarkfield where Bonnie taught 25 years. They built their home in 1968 one block north of the school. Bonnie enjoyed bowling and attended and was active in the Methodist Church. She attended Blandin Leadership Training at Grand Rapids, Minnesota in 1988. She sat on the One Fund board, the Valhalla Apartment board, was active in the order of the Eastern star, was instrumental in helping set up the Girl Scout program in the city and served as their Unit Service Chair. Bonnie also served on the Clarkfield Outdoors board. She worked as Bloodmobile coordinator for over 29 years, served as election judge, and participated as Yellow Medicine County Independent Republican chairwoman for six years. The family hosted a foreign exchange student from Brazil. She assisted as the Clarkfield Food Shelf when it was moved to the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Bonnie helped to deliver meals and to call drivers for delivering Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed reading and taking camping trips each summer for vacations with the family. Family and friends were important to her as were remembering birthdays and anniversaries by sending appropriate cards and working in the community. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean (2009) and four brothers and their spouses: Edwin and Marjorie Lancaster, Mt. Kisco, New York; Edgar and Marie Lancaster, Orange City, Iowa; George and Lucille Lancaster, Kansas City, Missouri; Robert and Lois Lancaster, Le Mars, Iowa. She is also preceded in death by sister, Evelyn and Ralph Anderson, Aurora, Illinois; son, Michael Shaw, Virginia Beach, Virginia; two granddaughters: Amy Jo Long, Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Jennifer (Shaw) Anderson Leigh, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and grandson-in-law, Brent Anderson. She leaves daughter: Terri and Jon Thostenson, Hanley Falls, Minnesota; son: Scott and Trudy shaw, Rochester, Minnesota; daughter: Pamela Shaw, Lakeville, Minnesota; daughter Gail and Tim Ruzicka, Delano, Minnesota; and grandchildren: Eric Long, Willmar, Minnesota; Patrick Long, Montevideo, Minnesota; Nicholas and Gwen Shaw, Freeport, Minnesota; Daniel Ruzicka, Mound, Minnesota, and great grandchildren: Christopher and Samuel Long, Glenwood, Minnesota; Keegan Long, Boyd, Minnesota; Brynn, Eve and Stella Shaw, Freeport, Minnesota; and special friend, Al Grannes of Belview, Minnesota.
