IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Beverly
Haaland
August 28, 1939 – November 20, 2013
Beverly M. Haaland August 28, 1939~November 20, 2013 Beverly May Haaland was born August 28, 1939, at the Clarkfield Hospital to Gustav and Mildred (Olson) Haaland. She was baptized at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Rev. I. O. Melom. She was the last one to be baptized at the church. Her sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Oren Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Nels Aarestad. Beverly started school, known as the Aarestad School, with Sheldon and Gary Haaland. They always treated her like a sister. After two months in school, County Superintendent Miss Clara Thorpe, spoke with Beverly's parents and suggested taking her to Minneapolis for exams. There she was diagnosed as mentally handicapped. This was a blow to her parents and family that knew her. Her parents gave her love and care for 35 years. Their family doctor, Dr. Niazi, suggested that the R.E.M. Home in Canby, which was new at the time, would be an ideal place for Beverly and it was close to home so they could easily visit her and have her home on weekends. The hard decision was made that Beverly would go there to live. On August 26th, 1974, she moved to the R.E.M. Home in Canby, Minnesota. She has lived in this area all her life and had many friends. She attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Canby. She was happy at the R.E.M. Home, thanks to the loving and caring housemothers and care givers. Beverly had a sister who was stillborn on March 14, 1938. Her father passed away December 6, 1993, and her mother on May 28, 1999. Before Mildred passed away she made Beverly's aunt, Helen May Leasman and Deborah Leasman as Beverly's guardians. In 2009 Alice (Leasman) Janiszeski also became a guardian. Beverly passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center in Canby, Minnesota at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 23 days. She is survived by her aunts Helen May Leasman and Vi Haaland, cousins Pat and Roger Olson and many other cousins. Besides her parents and sister, she was preceded in death by many aunts and uncles.
