IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty (Hoffmann)
Williams
April 4, 1934 – March 5, 2014
Betty M. Williams April 4, 1934 ~ March 5, 2014 Betty Martha Hoffmann was born April 4, 1934, in Olmstead County, near Rochester, Minnesota, to Arthur and Clara (Seims) Hoffman. She was the middle child of 14 children raised on a farm. She attended country school near their home and then Rochester Public schools. Betty was united in marriage to Keith Edward Williams on June 17, 1956, in Rochester. To this union four children were born: Kevin, who died at age 21 after four years in the Air Force, Dean, Vonda and Jonell. Betty and Keith raised their family in Sioux City, Iowa, Alton, Iowa, Moline, Illinois, Okabena, Minnesota, Scottsdale, Arizona, and Boyd, Minnesota. Betty began her long career taking care of people while still in Rochester, working as a surgical technician. She went back to school in her 40s to secure her nursing license, something she and her family were very proud of--she was a real trailblazer. Along the trail she was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Okabena, a member of the Eastern Star in Lakefield, Minnesota, and also an active member of the volunteer ambulance crew/first responders along with Keith. She was President of Trinity Women's Organization in Boyd. Betty threw herself into any project she started with tenacity. She always enjoyed gardening, along with quilting, sewing, puzzles, spending time at the lake or at her children's homes. Then when the grandkids came along she loved anything to do with them, helping with their 4-H projects, reading, teaching them games or going on adventures in town or even in her yard with them. She was gifted with a childlike imagination when she was with them and became a co- conspirator in their adventures. Betty was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's around her 60th birthday and has had a slow gradual progression since then. She has spent the last 10 years at the Good Samaritan Home in Pipestone. She passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at the age of 79. Betty is survived by three children: Dean (Mari-ann) of Land O Lakes, Florida, Vonda (Randy) Reed of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Jonell (Michael) Leslie of Canby, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren: Bobbi Jo (Al) Hermanson-Albers, Ryan (Krista) Reed, Katie (Dan) Oman, Nicole (Jeff) Olson, Elizabeth (Chad Gillespie) Hermanson, Naomi (Andrew) Kleczka, Ruth Williams, Donald Hermanson, Rachel Williams, Cody Reed, Sarah Williams, David Williams, Benjamin Williams, Timothy Williams; six great grandchildren: Max and Lucy Albers, Jaxon and Jace Oman, Asher and Alethia Kleczka; siblings: Erma Mensing, Leonard Hoffmann, Arden (Kathy) Hoffmann, Velma (Ray) Lindstrom, Donald (LaDonna) Hoffmann, Gordon (Janet) Hoffmann, Duane (Fran) Hoffmann, Maynard (Karen) Hoffmann and Charlotte Weichmann; brothers-in-law: Jack (Cleone) Williams and Dale (Shari) Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
