Betty M. Stangeland was born September 17, 1932, in Gary, South Dakota, to parents Fred and Marie (Wolfe) Sueverkruepp. She attended and graduated from Gary High School. She married George Stangeland on June 3, 1951, in Gary, South Dakota. To this union they were blessed with seven children: Randy, Danny, Deanna, Lori, Mike, Tony, and Duane. Betty enjoyed baking and treating all those dear to her with her fresh baked treats. It gave her great pleasure to give away her 'labors of love'. Everyone who knew and loved Betty, knew of her famous brownies, but when asked to share her recipe, she claimed it to be a family secret. Her greatest pleasure in life was to make others happy. Betty passed away at her home on Wednesday morning, September 1, 1999, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her children: Danny (and Tammy) of Marshall, Minnesota, Deanna (and Jim) Sopland of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Lori (and Brian) Schandorff of Montevideo, Minnesota, Mike (and Sherry) of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Tony (and Joan) of Montevideo, Minnesota, Duane (and Julie) of Marshall, Minnesota; plus 15 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers: John, Don, Melvin, Fred; and sister Ruby. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George in 1997; son Randy; grandson Javin Muilenburg; siblings Dora, Anne, Marie, and Tony. Blessed be her memory.
