Obituary

Betty Lou (Saumer) (Hermanson) Grinager (October 3, 1933 ~ September 15, 2012) Betty Lou Saumer was born in Canby, Minnesota, on October 3, 1933, to Herbert and Ruth Saumer. She was the oldest of five children. During her childhood they lived in Canby, Ortonville, Watson and Montevideo. She attended school in Watson and Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo in 1951. She attended some nurses training and practiced her nursing in the Twin Cities area and in Montevideo and did secretarial work for different companies. On April 14th of 1953, she was united in marriage with Donald Hermanson at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Their union was blessed with five children: Debra, Vicki, Craig, Doug and Richard. In February of 1973 her husband Donald passed away. In November of 1975 she was united in marriage to Palmer Grinager and became the stepmother to Palmers children, Paul and Karen. Betty was a very active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd. She was a caregiver to many. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, crocheting afghans for family and friends, playing cards, gardening, collecting dolls, and was a dedicated fan of the Twins and Vikings. But most of all she enjoyed her time with family and friends. On October 30th of 2005, she suffered a life changing stroke. With the help of Palmer and her family the journey began. Following her stroke she spent time in the Dawson Nursing Home, Valhalla Apartments in Clarkfield and the Granite Falls Manor. She loved the caregivers at the Granite Manor, they were like her second family and took very good care of her up until her death. She always had a lot of company, and if you didn't show up she would call you on her cell phone and was ready to go on another outing in her handicapped van. Through all of the trials, losses and struggles in her life, she continued to have hope and faith. She was always the rock of our family. On Saturday morning, September 15th, with her family at her side, the Lord wrapped his arms around Betty and called her to join her loved ones. She was 78 years old. Cherishing her memory are her children: Debra (Dan) Schluter, Vicki (Steve) Norman, Craig Hermanson, Doug (Donna) Hermanson, Richard Hermanson and Stepchildren: Paul (Gerry) Grinager, Karen (David) Londgren, 37 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Jill Zenter, Kenneth (Peggy) Saumer, Carol (LeRoy) Williamson, sister-in-law Karen Saumer, brother and sister-in-laws Vernell (Janice) Hermanson, Roger (Madalyn) Hermanson, Alice (Jerry) Deattie Phaler, Helen (Don) Hutt, Diane (Don) Ruether, Ruby (Ed) Pacheco, Jerry Grinager and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Donald and Palmer, brother Lanny Saumer and grandson Ole Norman. Also preceding her in death are Palmers sibings: Helmer, Bennie, LuVern and Millie. Blessed be her memory.
