Obituary

Betty Lou (Iverson) Handeland was born on March 31, 1925, at the Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, to Elmer and Elida (Hendrickson) Iverson. She attended school in Montevideo and graduated in 1943. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She married Kenneth Handeland in 1943 and moved to the farm east of Clarkfield, Minnesota. To this union three children were born. She lost her "best friend" Kenny, who died in July of 1990. Betty continued to live on the farm until the last six weeks of her life. She was not only a mother and grandmother, but a close friend to all of them, they were "her pals". Many memories are tucked into each one of her pals. She loved the holidays decorating her home for the occasion, whether it be Easter, Halloween or Christmas. Her home was the gathering place for all her family. She was a member of a Garden Club, Birthday Group and had many friends of all ages. She enjoyed going to the lake, fishing and enjoyed taking care of her yard. She hated dandelions! She had worked at Western Dairy Co. in Clarkfield. She was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Betty passed away peacefully at her apartment in Clarkfield on Monday evening, October 15, 2007, at the age of 82 years, 6 months and 14 days. Grateful to have shared her life are, daughter Barbara Gross of Timber Lake, South Dakota; sons: Byron Handeland and Kenny (Jean) Handeland Jr. of Clarkfield; her grandchildren: Kelly Dahl, Chad Sletten, Traci Gross, Melissa (Jermey) Martin, Julia (Charles) Xeroteres, Richard (Marie) Gross, Greg Handeland, Susan (Curt) Stockinger, Melanie Handeland and Bradley (Alisha) Handeland; her step grandchildren: Mark, Stephanie and Jon Gross; and her Great Grandchildren: Allison Gross, Natalie Gross and Conner Martin.
