(Peterson) Thompson
September 15, 1895 – February 17, 1991
Bettie Alfreda Thompson was born September 15, 1895, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Peter and Emma (Svenson) Peterson. She attended rural school and was baptized and confirmed at Swede Home Lutheran Church. On June 5, 1918, she married Knute A. Thompson at the farm home of her parents in Swede Prairie Township. Two sons were born to this union, Kenneth and Ervin. Bettie will be remembered for her many special hobbies including sewing, knitting mittens and stockings, gardening and baking her special "Grandpa Cookies". She was very interested in her husband's threshing shows and entertained countless friends over the many years from 1957 to 1973 when their threshing show was held on the farm. She also accompanied Knute, traveling to many different areas, with his steam engine hobby. Bettie died Sunday, February 17, 1991, at the Clarkfield Care Center, where she had been a resident for several years, at the age of 95 years. Bettie is survived by her son, Ervin of Cottonwood, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Thompson of rural Cottonwood; seven grandchildren, Cheryl and husband Larry Crowder of Alamosa, Colorado, Kerry and wife Mary Thompson of Cottonwood, Becky and husband Steve Olmstead of Glencoe, Minnesota, Doug and wife Susan Thompson of Pine Island, Minnesota, Cindy and husband John Knabe of Jackson, Minnesota, Cathy and husband Matt Yseth of Pipestone, Minnesota, and Christi and husband Scott Fratzke of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 16 great grandchildren; two brothers, Ludvig Peterson of the Clarkfield Care Center and Fredolph Peterson of Westminster, Colorado; two sisters, Ethel Corbett of Atascadero, California and Anna Hanson of Clarkfield, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Jennie Peterson and lona Peterson both of Clarkfield; brother-in-law, Marvin Thompson of Minneota, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Knute in 1975; her son, Kenneth in 1985; grandson, Bruce in 1971; daughter-in-law, Beth in 1977; four brothers, Axel, Oscar, Alfred and Winfred; five sisters, Esther, Edith, Emma, Hulda and Amalie.
