Bette J. Stensrud was born on June 7, 1927, at Jasper, Minnesota, to parents Newton and Margaret (DeBates) Hansen. She grew up and attended school in the Jasper, Minnesota area. Betty married Howard Geihl on June 15, 1947, at Cottonwood, Minnesota. They were the parents of three children: Peggy, Gary and Glen. Bette married Marvin Stensrud of Cottonwood on April 25, 1981, at Cottonwood, Minnesota. She was a lifelong member of English Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. She enjoyed cooking and baking, watching the Minnesota Twins, and especially caring for her family. Bette moved to Hill Street in Marshall, Minnesota, following the death of her husband Marvin in 2001. She spent a short time at the Clarkfield Care Center and the Granite Falls Hospital. She passed away at the hospital on Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at the age of 78 years, 3 months and 20 days. Bette is survived by her children: Peggy Hames of Marshall, Gary (and Monica) Geihl of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, and Glen (and Lois) Geihl of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and by step-children: Donovan (and Shirley) Stensrud of Cottonwood, Larry (and Ann) Stensrud of Clarkfield, Rodney (and Lonna) Stensrud of Minneota, Minnesota, and Bonnie (and Ralph) Walker of Oakland, California. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Brandon Hames (son of Peggy), Laura, Michael and Renae Geihl (children of Gary and Monica) and Lisa and Craig Geihl (children of Glen and Lois); several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sister: Robert (and Evelyn) Hansen, Dean (and Marge) Hansen, Jim (and Marlys) Hansen, Jerry (and Rose) Hansen, Judy Peterson and Larry (and Gail) Hansen; and brother-in-law, Erling Kompelien. She was preceded in death by husband Howard Geihl; husband Marvin Stensrud; her parents; sister Beverly Kompelien; and brothers-in-law Wayne Peterson and Cleo Sealey. Blessed be her memory.
