Betsey Mathilda
(Nelson) Hanson
July 1, 1879 – December 22, 1948
Mrs. Betsey Mathilda Hanson was born July 1, 1879, in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Engebret and Oline (Heimark) Nelson. She was baptized September 17, 1879, in Bergen Lutheran Church and confirmed July 8, 1894, in Clarkfield Lutheran Church, Rev. Moen, Pastor. Together with her parents and brothers, Betsey joined the Clarkfield church June 7, 1897, and was an active member until her passing. On February 6, 1921, she was united in Marriage to Hans R. Hanson, who passed away December 22, 1948. Mrs. Hanson passed away September 11, 1954, at University Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 75 years. Two brothers died in infancy. Also preceding her in death were her parents, and two older brothers, Ole and Severt Nelson. Mrs. Hanson was an active member of the Clarkfield Ladies Aid and always took a keen interest in all of the Lord's work. Her favorite hobby was helping others who were in trouble, and when someone was sick she would always help if she could. Another hobby in which she took a lifelong interest was flower gardening. An enthusiastic member of the Clarkfield Garden Club, her beautiful flower display surrounding her home on Oscar Street never failed to draw admiring visitors. Her generous gifts of plants from her garden are acknowledged by many local flower lovers. She was one of those who helped beautify her village. Surviving Mrs. Hanson are her brother, Nels E. Nelson and family; seven step-children: Mrs. Martin Jurgenson, Roy and Kenneth Hanson and Mrs. N.E. Nelson, all of Clarkfield, Miller Hanson of Detroit, Michigan, Theodore Hanson of Sioux City, Iowa, and Mrs. Raymond Friberg of Eugene, Oregon; besides a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
