Bertina Kalberg Halverson was born at Stavanger, Norway, on March 10, 1877, the daughter of Tollef Olson Kalberg and Ellen Stokke Kalberg. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith. In May, 1882, at the age of five, she came with her parents to America. The same year, her parents purchased a farm in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where they made their home. She was confirmed at the St. Lucas Lutheran Church by Rev. Knute Thorstenson on August 10, 1890. In May, 1897, she was united in marriage to Lewis Halverson. To this union, six children were born: Theles, who passed away at the age of sixteen years, Henry of Hazel Run, Minnesota, Ella (Mrs. Herman Nelson), Ludwig, Judith (Mrs. Orvin Kompelien), all of Minneota, Minnesota, and Irene (Mrs. Odin Kolhei) of Cottonwood, Minnesota. Her husband passed away 47 years ago on November 29, 1920. Mrs. Halverson resided on the farm until 1947 when she moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. When she was no longer able to be alone, she made her home with her daughter, Irene, for two and one- half years and then entered the Clarkfield Nursing Home. She passed away at the nursing home on November 4, 1967, at the age of 90 years. Beside her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Johan and Ole; one son, Theles; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. She leaves to mourn her passing, her five children; 13 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
