Hanson
March 25, 1920 – June 17, 2009
Bertha Christine Hanson was born on March 25, 1920 rural Clarkfield, to parents Orville T. and Maria (Gudmundson) Hanson at their home in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church in Normania Township. She grew up in Swede Prairie Township and attended school in district 86. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1938 and from Teacher's Training in Montevideo in 1940. She was a country school teacher in Yellow Medicine and Lyon Counties. For ten years, she was the primary care-giver for her mother, who was bed-ridden following a massive stroke. After living on the family farm for over sixty years, she moved into the West Prairie Apartments in Cottonwood in 2006. In March of 2008, she became a resident of the Granite Manor in Granite Falls, where she passed away on June 17th, 2009 at the age of 89 years, 2 months, and 23 days. She loved baking and cooking, liked watching sports on television, and enjoyed spending time with family. She was an active member of St. Lucas, having taught Sunday School for several years and serving in various capacities in the women's organizations. She cherished the love and support of her family. Those who survive her are: her sister, Charlotte Hoff; four nieces and four nephews-Kathryn (Hoff) Rothman; Ruth Ann (Hanson) Schmidt; Liane Hanson; Susan (Lamb) Parenti; Joe, Robert, and Don Hoff; Steven Lamb-and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Howard; sister, Una Marie Lamb; sister-in- law, Deloryce Hanson; and brother-in-law Joe Hoff. Blessed be her memory.
