Obituary

Bernt Cornelius Larson was born on a farm two miles northwest of Clarkfield, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on June 13, 1880, the son of Christopher and Brita (Olsen) Larson, pioneer settlers in Lisbon Township. He was baptized July 4 that same year in the Bergen Church, Stony Run Township and was confirmed by Rev. Fjeldstad in 1893 in the Bergen Church. Later, when a congregation was organized in Clarkfield his parents, who were charter members in the Bergen Church, transferred their membership to Clarkfield. Bernt was a member in the local congregation until 1926, when his health failed to the extent that a change of climate became necessary. Mr. Larson then went to Los Angeles, California, where he was employed as a mechanic until about two years ago, when his health again failed. On April 15, 1952, he passed away at a Los Angeles hospital, aged 71 years, 10 months and 8 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and three brothers. His only known near relatives living to mourn his passing are a niece, Mrs. M.J. Hansen, of Clarkfield, and a cousin, Mrs. Albert Heimark of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. Another niece, Mrs. Andrew Heimary of Pelican Rapids, died in 1948. Mr. Larson was a man of a very quiet dispositaion, who always minded his own affairs and offended no one. For many years he operated the old farmstead northwest of Clarkfield, and cared for his aged mother until at her death in 1926, he sold out and moved to California. Funeral services were held Friday, April 25, 1952, 2:00 p.m. at the Clarkfield Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. P.L. Mork of the Clarkfield congregation and Rev. A.N. Olson of the Bergen congregation officiating. Miss Francis Nelson sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "If I Have Wounded Any Soul Today". Pallbearers were Roy Hanson, Eneval and Lewis Stenevik, John Hansrud, Carl Hauge and Andrew Droen, all former neighbors of Mr. Larson before he left for California.
