Bernice I. Walters was born on April 2, 1923, at Taylors Falls, Minnesota, to parents Ray and Esther (Dahl) Hide. She graduated from Amary High School, Amary, Wisconsin, and then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. While living in Minneapolis, Bernice met Nicholas Walters. Bernice and Nick were married at Marshall, Minnesota, on June 3, 1944. This marriage was blessed with three sons: Michael, Ray, and Steven. Nick and Bernice farmed in Omro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where they raised their family. Bernice worked at the Minneota Manor Nursing Home for about 10 years as a Nursing Assistant. She also enjoyed traveling, working in the garden, and especially loved to spend time with her granddaughters. Bernice passed away on Saturday evening, October 28, 2000, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 26 days. She is survived by her husband, Nicholas of Boyd, Minnesota; and her family: son, Michael (and Peggy) Walters of Boyd, son, Ray (and Mary) Walters of Apple Valley, Minnesota, daughter-in-law, Karla Walters of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and granddaughters: Michele (and Dan) Machado, Melisa Walters, Ann Walters, Kristel Walters, Kelly Walters, and Dayna Walters; and great granddaughters Sarah and Tessa Machado. She is also survived by sisters: Edna Strenke, Marie Fetterley, and Audrey Sorsoleil; and brothers: Ray and James Eide; and many nieces, nephews and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Steven; and brother Vernon. Blessed be her memory.
