Bernhard Brovold was born in Hadeland, Norway, January 5, 1880, to Tosen and Karen Presmarken. He was baptized and confirmed in Norway. On August 27, 1906, he was united in marriage to Emma Iverson of Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, by Rev. Halvor Fjeldstad. To this union nine children were born. Preceding Mr. Brovold in death were his parents. He is survived by his wife; five sons: Olaf of Montevideo, Minnesota, Benford of Boyd, Minnesota, Engeval of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Clinton and Ernest of Clarkfield, Minnesota; four daughters: Jennie (Mrs. Alfred Peterson) of Clarkfield, Mrs. Cora Johnson of Granite Falls, Mamie (Mrs. Thomas Amundson) of Dawson, Minnesota, Esther (Mrs. Anton Nelson) of Boyd; besides ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Brovold's was a busy life, spent in unselfish service to a large family and always willing to do his share. The greater part of his life was spent as a carpenter and farmer. On January 12, 1951, he suffered a stroke and was taken to the Clarkfield Community Hospital where he remained for about six weeks. From there he was taken to his home in Lisbon Township and later was moved to Granite Falls where he spent 18 months in bed at home and the past eight days he was a patient at the Granite Falls Hospital where he passed away peacefully April 20th, 1953, at the age of 73 years, three months and 15 days.
