Obituary

Bernard Frazier Jahn was born on June 27, 1924, at Montevideo, Minnesota, to parents John William Jahn and Amy Elizabeth Frazier. He attended Montevideo High School and graduated in 1943. Following high school, he farmed briefly in the Montevideo area before entering the United States Army on April 23, 1945. Bernie served in Japan for two years during World War II. Upon discharge from the service, he entered the University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical School. Bernard married Mary Elizabeth Holm on September 15, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Minnesota Veterinary College with a Doctorate degree in 1953. He practiced with Dr. Merit in Minneota, Minnesota, for two years. In 1954 he established a Veterinary Medicine Practice in Clarkfield, Minnesota, where he served for more than 40 years. Bernie enjoyed gardening, pets, and his days at the lake. He was very proud of his home north of Clarkfield with all its trees and beauty. He enjoyed his Grandchildren and spending time with them. He served on the Clarkfield Hospital Board, various Veterinary Associations, American Legion, Lion's Club, Knights of Columbus, the Clarkfield Civic and Commerce, and assisted with the Clarkfield Boy Scouts. Bernie passed away early Wednesday morning, June 5, 2002, at the Clarkfield Care Center, where he had been a resident for about two months. He reached the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 22 days. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Clarkfield; and his children: William (Bill) (and Kathy) Jahn of rural Boyd, Minnesota, Robert (Bob) (and Roxanne) Jahn of Marshall, Minnesota, Daniel (and Ruth) Jahn of Clarkfield, David (and Gail) Jahn of Luverne, Minnesota, and Sue (and Tom) Wagener of Shorewood, Minnesota. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister Ruth Morisette; brothers: Tom (and Marlene) Jahn, and Charles (and Carol) Jahn; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Rhode and brother Lawrence.
