Berdey Theresa Brown was born August 2, 1893, to Charles and Emma (Norstedt) Nordgren at New London, Minnesota. She was baptized by Rev. Almen. As a child, she lived and attended school in several places, among them Revillo, South Dakota, and Hanley Falls, Minnesota. May 3, 1913, she was united in marriage to Harvey Brown by the Rev. Carl Aberg at Willmar, Minnesota. The two made their home in Hazel Run, Minnesota. The union was blessed with two daughters, Verle and Phyllis. Reared in the Methodist faith, Berdey and Harvey were confirmed May, 1938, by the Rev. Anders Haugland and became members of the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Berdey was active in the W.C.T.U., church and civic organizations. After the death of her husband in October, 1953, Berdey continued her life of service to others and then made her home with her dear sister-in-law, Edna Brown Brakke at Veblen, South Dakota. She transferred her church membership to Our Saviors Lutheran Church there. She passed away in her sleep on December 12, 1972. She will be missed by her daughters and their husbands: Verle and Fredolph Peterson of Westminster, Colorado, and Phyllis and Harlan Schlee of Minneapolis, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Jane and David Neilsen of Palm Beach, Queensland, Australia, Dick and Dretta Peterson of Columbia, Maryland, Harvey Peterson of Westminster, Colorado, and Mary Beth and Dean Westby of Boise, Idaho; her great grandchildren: Elizabeth, Laura and Katherine Nielsen, Timothy and Michael Peterson and Jason Westby; her sisters: Mrs. Ellen Leslie of Ontario, California, Mrs. Clara Floren of Kerkhoven, Minnesota, Mrs. Pearl Dalen of Cambridge, Minnesota, and Mrs. Rhoda Johnson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and brothers: Roy Nordgren of Forest Park, Illinois, and Robert Nordgren of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
