Funeral services were held March 15, 1974, at Hazel Run Lutheran Church for Bennie P. Mikelson who died at the Montevideo Hospital on March 12, 1974, at the age of 79 years. Rev. E.T. Fyrand officiated at the services. Organist was Mrs. Duane Jacobson and vocal music was furnished by Lester Mikelson of Minneapolis and Alvin Mikelsoin of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Casket Bearers were Marc Arneson, David Mikelson, Dean Mikelson, Peter Mikelson, Richard Mikelson and Steven Mikelson. Final Resting Place is the Hazel Run Cemetery. Bennie P. Mikelson was born May 8, 1894, in Friendship Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Peter and Tilda (Johnson) Mikelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. He served his country during World War I for a period of 18 months. On October 15, 1919, he was united in marriage to Alma Thompson of Hazel Run, who preceded him in death on August 22, 1948. Five children were born to this union: Milo of St. Peter, Minnesota, Kermit of Redondo Beach, California, Waldo of Lake Preston, South Dakota, Devon from Gardena, California, and Beulah (Mrs. Dennis Jorgenson) of Clarkfield. He married Maybelle Reay of Montevideo on September 30, 1951. Two daughters were born: Pamela and Paulette, both at home. Bennie was engaged in farming until 1940 when he moved into Hazel Run and began carpentry, working actively in that occupation until the past few years. Preceding him in death were his parents, four brothers: Martin, Selmer, Emil and Arthur; and one sister, Irene. Survivors, besides his wife and children, include two brothers, Charlie of Los Angeles, California, and Arnold of Clarkfield, and one sister, Sylvia (Mrs. Arthur Arneson) of Clarkfield; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
