Benjamin Franklin Lewis was born in Frontier County near Chamberlain, Nebraska, June 24, 1892, the son of Robert N. and Myrtle Blanche (Martin) Lewis. He entered the U.S. Army during World War I and was on active duty from September 15, 1917, until January 25, 1919. On September 5, 1923, he married Ellen Henrietta Denker. They resided on a farm near Canby, Minnesota, for seven years. In 1931 they moved to the Clarkfield area, where they have farmed for the past 28 years until Mr. Lewis was stricken with a heart attack on December 31, 1958, and passed away suddenly at the age of 66 years, six months and six days. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, a brother in infancy and a sister in infancy. He leaves to mourn, his wife and eight children: Marjorie (Mrs. Gordon Mullins) of Dawson, Minnesota, Marlys (Mrs. Rene Van Acker) of Marshall, Minnesota, Carol (Mrs. Edwin Lyseng) of Minneapolis, Myrtle (Mrs. Odin Ims) of Echo, Minnesota, Clarice (Mrs. Ronald Konold) of Worthington, Minnesota, Ellen (Mrs. Robert Schlemmer) of Minneapolis, and Franklin and Sally at home. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, four sisters: Bertha (Mrs. Jesse Riley) of Seattle, Washington, Mary (Mrs. Ennis Redwing) of Flandreau, South Dakota, Amy (Mrs. G.A. Reed) of Lawrence, Kansas, Ida (Mrs. Walter Kriesel) of Zimmerman, Minnesota, and two brothers, Clinton of Ghent, Minnesota and Albert of Seattle, Washington, besides nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
