Benford Elton Brovold was born April 18, 1914, in Lisbon Township to Bernard and Emma Iverson Brovold. He was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church. He was married to Thelma Dagel on June 28, 1939, and moved to Boyd, Minnesota, in 1945 where they have since made their home. The couple has two children, a daughter, Crystal and a son, Jan. Benford was a devoted husband and father and cherished the many fond memories of their growing up. After retiring in 1976, Benford enjoyed working and maintaining the home and spending time with his family. He enjoyed attending events in which his five grandchildren participated. He was always supportive and enthusiastic of his family's accomplishments. Benford died Friday July 19, 1991, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, Minnesota, at the age of 77 years and 3 months. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; his daughter Crystal and her husband Ron Ebnet of Litchfield, Minnesota; his son Jan and his wife Sandra of St. Peter, Minnesota; two granddaughters and three grandsons. Also surviving are two brothers, Clinton and Ingeval of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and two sisters, Jennie Peterson of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Mamie Amundson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; as well as many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Olaf and Ernest; and his sisters Cora Johnson and Esther Nelson. "Benford was a gentle man."
