Ben Lee, son of Mathias and Jertina (Jacobson) Lee, was born June 8, 1903, at Boyd, Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota. He was baptized by Rev. J.B. Reinertson and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church by Pastor O.T. Storaaslie. He attended rural school in District 105 and 88 near Clarkfield. He worked as a farm hand until he enlisted in the army July 10, 1942, at Fort Snelling. He was assigned to the 8th Armored Division, Fort Knox, Kentucky. He completed the course of instruction for cooks and passed the examination as First Cook. He served in North Africa, returning to the United States and receiving his honorable discharge on November 10, 1944, at the headquarters of the Seventh Service Command, Omaha, Nebraska. Following his discharge, he made his home in Minneapolis where he worked as a trucker and gardener, and later with the Tronstad Construction Co. He passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on May 4, 1967, having reached the age of 65 years. He is survived by five sisters: Tillie (Mrs. William Fiest) of Hazel Run, Minnesota, Mrs. Mattie Anderson of Veblen, South Dakota, Thea (Mrs. Oscar Kopitzke) of Willmar, Minnesota, Sophia (Mrs. Melville Long) and Mrs. Clara Afdem of Clarkfield; three brothers: Reuben at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, George of Willmar, Minnesota, and Alfred of Montevideo, Minnesota. Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Mabel; and three brothers: Carl, James and Peter. IN MEMORY OF BEN M.
