Belvin Hagen was born October 28, 1887, in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Hans and Martha (Johnson) Hagen. He was baptized at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, by Rev. Knut Thorstenson on December 18, 1887, and was confirmed by Rev. S.J. Njaa on June 1, 1902. On July 10, 1923, he was married at Silo Lutheran Church by Rev. N.L. Otterstad. The Lord added his blessing to the marriage of Belvin and Miss Ida Berg of Cottonwood by giving to them three children, a son Harland and two daughters, Avis and Maxine. Belvin Hagen has been occupied with farming in the vicinity of Hanley Falls all his life. During World War I, he served in the armed forces of his country and has been a legionnaire of the Hanley Falls Post since that time. During the past few years he has been living at the Madison Lutheran Home, Madison, Minnesota, until he recently failed in health and passed from this life at the age of 73 years at the Madison Hospital on October 21, 1961, following a stroke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida. He is survived by his son, Harland Hagen of Hanley Falls; his two daughters, Mrs. James Isaackson of Cottonwood, Minnesota, and Mrs. Lowell Hegg of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; and two brothers, Martin of Wood Lake, Minnesota, and Henry of Leonard, Minnesota.
