Beatrice York Smith was born October 31, 1894, at Centerville, Iowa, to Stephen John York and Eldora Briley York. She attended school in the Clarkfield, Minnesota community. She was united in marriage to Harry D. Smith on January 29, 1913, at the Methodist Church in Boone, Iowa. They moved to Hazel Run, Minnesota, in 1915 and farmed until 1950 when Harry retired. They moved into Clarkfield in 1963 and in the same year observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary at the Clarkfield Methodist Church. Mrs. Smith passed away August 30, 1979, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, at the age of 84 years, after a lingering illness. She is survived by six of her children: Harold E. Smith and Mrs. Eileen Stensrud of Clarkfield, Mrs. Pansy Elliott of Fridley, Minnesota, Mrs. Florence Bruns of Porter, Minnesota, Mrs. Eldora Walker of Sandy Creek, New York, and Mrs. Beatrice Silver of St. Paul; sisters: Mrs. Ruby Fincham of Ames, Iowa, Mrs. Dorothy Webb of Des Moines, Iowa; brothers: John York of Denair, California, Ira York of Boone, Iowa, and Dave York of Denver, Colorado; 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; one son, James William Smith; two sisters: Mrs. Pansy McCoy and Mrs. Hazel Pepper; two brothers: James and Kenneth York; two sons-in-law: Ariel Jacobson and Rod Caufield; two grandsons: Maurice Jacobson and Stephen Elliott.
