Athalia V. Skaug, 88, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, passed away at the Minnesota Masonic Home in Minneapolis on Tuesday, January 3, 1989. She was the last of 12 Skaug children. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 1989, from the Lynner Funeral Home Chapel of Clarkfield, Minnesota, with Pastor Gordon A. Trelstad officiating. Casket Bearers were Jon and Mark Flugstad, Tom Nelson and Charles Skaug. Final Resting Place is Clarkfield Lutheran Church Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was born in Clarkfield to Jorgen and Josephine (Casperson) Skaug on December 30, 1900. She was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and attended school in Clarkfield, graduating later from South High School in Minneapolis. She then graduated from St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota and was a teacher for 45 years in various Minnesota schools including; Clarkfield, Gibbon, Porter and Cloverton. She retired 23 years ago from Lauderdale School, which is now a part of Roseville, Minnesota School District. She also served as the first Worthy Matron of the Clarkfield Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and was currently a member of the Richfield Eastern Star Chapter 293. In 1966 Athalia was recognized by the M.E.A for her outstanding contributions to education and was awarded a lifetime membership. She has been residing in the Minnesota Masonic Home for the past four years. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and three sisters.
