Arvin O. Hanson was born on June 18, 1921 in Wang Township, Renville County, Minnesota to parents Peter and Anna (Fagerlie) Hanson. He was baptized as an infant at Trinity Lutheran Church of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, and as a young man, confirmed at the same church. Arvin graduated from Sacred Heart High School and then worked in the area until he entered the military in September of 1942. Arvin spent the next three years in the military serving in the 391st Signal Company Aviation. He served much time in Italy. While in the service, Arvin married Ruth Fjerkenstad of Boyd. They were married April 21, 1943 at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd. To this union one daughter, Darlene, was born. Upon leaving the military in 1945, Arvin returned to Minnesota and worked as a bulk gas deliverer for several years. He then worked for the Clarkfield Telephone Company for 10 years and then entered the Federal Government as a Rural Mail Carrier until his retirement in 1983. He was a mail carrier for 30 years. Arvin was a past member of the Boyd Fire Department, the Rod and Gun Club, and especially enjoyed teaching Fire Arms Safety. Arvin also served on several boards of the Trinity Lutheran Church. In his past time, he liked fishing and hunting. Arvin passed away on Sunday evening, December 26, 1993 at the Abbott-Northwestern Hopsital in Minneapolis at the age of 72 years. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Boyd and daughter, Darlene (husband Don) Swenson of Glenwood, Minnesota and two grandchildren: Daren of Appleton, Minnesota and Dana of Glenwood, Minnesota.
