Arvid Delwyn Melbostad was born on May 19, 1933, to Oscar and Ida (Lindquist) Melbostad in Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. He graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1951 where he was very active in sports. He attended Gustavus Adolphus College from 1951 to 1953. He entered the Army in January of 1954 and was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged in January of 1956. He was united in marriage with Joanne Isaacs on June 27, 1959, at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with three children: Steven, Kari and Jon. He began working at Associated Milk Producers, Inc. (Western Dairy) in 1956. He worked in both the Clarkfield and the Dawson plants, retiring in 1992 after 36 dedicated years. He spent the remaining years of his life devoted to his family, friends, church and community. Throughout his life he loved all sports, especially golfing with his friends in the Clarkfield Golf League. He was also active in the Lion's Club, Men's Bible Study, was a member of the Church Board and the American Legion. He also enjoyed being outdoors and helping friends with the spring and fall field work. Arvid passed away on May 2, 2001, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 67 years. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Joanne; his children: son Steven (Sherri) of Shakopee, Minnesota, daughter Kari, and son Jon of Clarkfield; his grandson Derek Melbostad of Shakopee; sister Audrey Hill of Clarkfield; nephew Robert (Gerene) Hill of Bay City, Michigan; niece Carolyn (Doug) Aldrich of Raymore, Missouri; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and their families along with many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Robert J. Hill and Peter Isaacs. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Blessed be his memory!
